In order to advocate for the business before the government, mobile operators in Zambia established a trade group.
The GSM Association of Zambia is the moniker adopted by Airtel, MTN, and Zamtel from the global industry association, the GSMA.
GSMAZ will improve the welfare of the entire industry, according to Apoorva Mehrotra, managing director of Airtel Zambia.
In order to advance industry-wide issues and keep raising the profile of mobile telecommunications in Zambia, he claimed that mobile network operators (MNOs) have to adopt a more cooperative strategy.
“It is our earnest belief that the GSMAZ through its members and dedicated staff will provide a vibrant platform through which MNOs will be able to achieve the foregoing agenda and reshape not only the telecommunications industry, but the entire digital ecosystem in Zambia,” he said.
The CEO of MTN Zambia, Bart Hofker, who chairs the GSMAZ, stated that it aims to influence the effective growth and sustained development of a strong and thriving mobile telecommunications sector in Zambia.
GSMAZ will co-operate with the regulating body, the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority, according to Mehrotra.
