The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) galvanized support during a sensitization fair concurrently hosted in Bayelsa and Rivers State in order to strengthen Nigeria’s economy and rescue it from danger.

In his presentation to a cross-section of individuals from the states of Bayelsa and Rivers, the Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi, stated that the CBN is using the sensitization fair to inform Nigerians about the economy and the role expected of the people to make it robust and stable.

Nwanisobi made the statement while being represented by Mr. Samuel Okogbue, Head Internal Communications, Corporate Communications Department. He noted that Nigeria’s economy had faced significant difficulties over the previous 15 years, including two recessions.

He claimed that many Nigerians had questioned the CBN’s role in addressing the nation’s economic problems without considering how their own behavior was harming the economy.

CBN operates behind the scenes to help the government execute its programme. We are here to intimate you about some of these programmes. Even though we operate behind the scenes it has also become necessary that we come out to let you people know what we are doing

He said that Nigerians must work together to restore the economy since the demand for foreign goods and services is hurting the country’s economy and driving up the cost of dollars.

Nwanisobi emphasized that the people would be made aware of how to benefit from loans provided by commercial banks and how the CBN can protect them. She reaffirmed that the CBN, under the leadership of its governor, Godwin Emefiele, is prepared to run a bank that is people-oriented.

“There are also things the Central Bank is doing to see how we can minimise the negative effect of this situation since our present governor made a vow that we will operate a Central Bank that is people oriented. He said he is going to operate a Central Bank that will touch the people that will identify with what the people are doing with Agriculture and what it will take to grow the Nigeria economy and in growing Nigeria economy so that the people will benefit from the process of that growth by way of creating employment.”

The branch controller, Mr. Francis Asuquo, also emphasized that educating the public about CBN efforts is the fair’s main goal. According to him, the CBN wants to work in partnership with the public to support the federal government’s efforts to create a well-diversified and prosperous economy as one of the key stakeholders in economic development.

Asuquo expressed hope that the CBN’s experience will aid in efforts to create a financially literate populace, create jobs, reduce poverty, and create a sustainable economy.
